New Mexico Technology and Design Related Meetups

Meetup sticker

There has been a steady increase of activity with technology related meet-ups in New Mexico. This is very exciting as existing meet-ups are gaining members and new meet-ups are being formed with increasing frequency. In this post I’m going to list and summarize those that would be interesting for a developer or designer to join, wether WordPress, general web, mobile app or server app developer to join. There's also something for the business owner to connect with industry professionals.

Besides technical individuals, business owners benefit from attend these meet-ups, as it’s a great place to engage with local technical and designer talent. Professionals that are active in their communities are an excellent business resource. For this reason I’m including a mix of techie and business focused groups, such as SEO focused Meet-ups (Search Engine Optimization).

We invite the reader to submit any additional links to meetups of other groups that they have found useful. We are not being paid to provide links here and are happy to consider any meetups that would benefit readers.

Albuquerque Based

A group for React and React Native developers in New Mexico. Meetings to discuss what's happening with React in the 505

"Come hack Angular 5 code and drink beer! And enjoy the food truck delights just outside. This is a casual meetup with no prior knowledge or experience required. We'll be discussing Angular and many times hacking code. But we're here to teach and help. Feel free to bring your own project to discuss with the group."

"A group of .NET Software Developers and/or Students researching and learning new aspects of Microsoft's ASP.NET technology. Our goal is to meet monthly, identify topics in ASP.NET group members are interested in, get members to volunteer to research those topics and provide a demo and presentation to the group."

"Are you working on updating your site? Writing a blog post? Working on a plugin or theme project? Want to throw around some ideas or get some feedback from others? The lunchtime workalong sessions are just WordPress people informally helping one another where we: ask questions, offer the benefit of your experience to others, hang out with some great people."

"Let's chat about Ruby and Rails. Some days we'll write code and/or tests, some days we'll just socialize. In the early days, people showed up because they were hoping to find Ruby and/or Ruby on Rails jobs. These days we have more job openings than we do Ruby programmers. So, if you'd like to learn enough to get paid to program Ruby, please join us."

"Let's continue our conversation about search engine optimization (SEO)--the "Free stuff". We had a good discussion last time, let's talk further. The dos and don'ts. What has changed and what to expect? Why free is not always free? What does good traffic mean and how do I get it?"

There’s a relatively new meetup called Built In New Mexico. The focus of this meet-up is to champion the talent that is here, and connect people. Think of it as an advertising agency for local talent, as a marketplace to exchange services, meet people and a venue to engage with new opportunities. Disclosure: I'm one of the organizers of this meetup.

What can be said about this meetup? "Enjoy some craft beers and meet one another, Get together and have a beer without Karaoke going on, Get together and have a few more beers!"
